PURE STOCK RULES

 

The rules and regulations set forth herein are designed to provide orderly conduct of the racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATION OF, OR COMPLIANCE WITH, THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS. They are intended as a guide for conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator, or official.

 

The Hibbing Raceway Pure Stock Committee shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in their opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. Any interpretation of, or deviations from these rules are left to the discretion of the Hibbing Pure Stock Committee, THEIR DECISION IS FINAL.

 

Age limit for the Pure Stock class is determined by the insurance carrier. Subject to change.

 

SAFETY

 

A. Glass, chrome, plastic, and upholstery must be removed.

B. ˝ of the windshield area will be covered with rigid wire mesh and three, (3) securely mounted steel bars, minimum 3/8” solid steel.

C. Helmets are required and must be a minimum of a, Snell 2000SA or later will be mandatory for 2010, must be worn at all times when car is on the race track and must accompany the vehicle at time of inspection. The helmet must have a face shield or eye protection, which must be in place when car is on the race track.

D. A driving suit of flame retardant material is mandatory. Two piece suits, top and bottom must be worn at the same time. Suit must be in good condition. (No holes)

E. Safety approved fuel cell and/or fuel tank to be made of metal or encased in metal and securely mounted to frame or roll cage above the floor boards inside the trunk. Boat tanks are acceptable if mounted as stated above.

F. Maximum capacity of fuel cell will be 32 gallons.

G. Batteries must be securely mounted and shielded inside trunk. One 12 volt battery only. No voltage increasing devices.

H. Loose objects and/or weights will not be allowed on car.

I.  Competition shoulder harness is required and must consist of two shoulder and lap belts being at least three(3) inches wide. NO OEM factory type shoulder belts or straps allowed. Metal to metal buckles are required on the shoulder harness and the lap belt. The harness must be bolted in at least four(4) points below the SUB STRAP. Belts must be mounted to cage, solid factory mounts or to solid frame. Harnesses may be no older than 3 years.

J.  Full sized window nets are required.

K. Drive shaft hoop is mandatory.

L. Drive shaft must be painted white.

M. Quick connect steering wheel allowed.

N. Stock replacement solid engine mounts recommended.

O.  Stock Alternator allowed.

 

MIRRORS AND RADIOS

 

A. No mirrors or radios of any kind are allowed at any time.

 

BRAKES

A.  Stock type brakes only.

B. All cars must have working brakes on all four wheels, at all times.

C. Proportioning valve may not be removed or altered.

 

ROLL CAGE

 

A. Main cage must be a minimum of 1.5 inch mild O.D, .095 mild steel tubing or .062 chromemoly tubing. Three (3) door bars in the left hand door excluding frame, a fourth (4) door bar is strongly recommended. A minimum of 1/8 inch steel plate must be welded from top door bar extending down to at least the bottom door bar, extending length of the drivers compartment. Any roll cage determined by the Hibbing Pure Stock Committee to be unsafe may be disqualified.

B. Must be mounted to the frame in at least four (4) places. If side rails are used they must be flush with the body, and mounted solid to the roll cage. Arc welding only.

C. Cage must consist of top hoop over driver’s head.

D. All tubing welds must be full radius welds.

E.  No collapsing, hammering or smashing of tubing to join them. Must be properly notched tubing.

BODIES

 

A. All bodies must have complete factory production stock (steel) body. No aluminum hoods allowed. Stock steel replacement door panels allowed.

B. Body and doors must match frame.

C. Firewall, floorboards and trunk area, must remain stock and in stock location. No cutting of the floor boards, no boxing in the driver’s compartment.

D. Wheel wells may be trimmed, but must remain stock appearing.

E. No ground effects, skirts and spoilers allowed.

F. Anything you can unbolt, you may remove.

G. Inner part of door may be removed.

H. All doors must be securely fastened.

I. Stock radiator support, and in stock location.

J. Stock replacement steel or aluminum radiators allowed.

K. Stock steering columns. Shifter must remain in stock position. You may use a push button type ignition.

L. Numbers must be contrasting colors and easily seen by lap counters.

M. Number must be placed on front and rear of car.

N. Front inner fender reinforcements may be removed.

 

 

 

CHASSIS AND WHEEL BASE

 

A. Any GM or FORD made FULL FRAMED car with a minimum wheel base of 108 inches.    One (1) inch tolerance allowed

B. No four (4) wheel drives. No front wheel drive cars allowed.

C. Must use stock bumpers for year, make and model. Bumpers must remain in stock location.

D. Stock rear bumper mounts need not be used.

E. Two (2) chains per bumper to be mounted solid to the frame, to secure to the bumper.

F. Must use stock type bumpers with no sharp edges. Stock bumper mount can be welded.

 

SUSPENSION- FRONT AND REAR

 

A. All front and rear suspension must remain stock for year, make and model.

B. Sway bar must be connected. Shims must be the same height on each side.

C. Upper A frame bolts must not exceed stock length. No offset upper A-arm shafts allowed.

D. Stock type shocks only. NO RACING SHOCKS!

E. NO RACING SPRINGS. Stock type only. Must remain in stock position. No altering of springs allowed. No progressive springs allowed.

F. Stock replacement springs allowed.

G. Coil springs must be within ˝ inch from one side to the other (freestanding height).

Coil springs must be the same diameter and have the same amount of wraps from side to side.

H. Leaf springs must have an arch not to vary more than one(1) inch from side to side. Left and right side must have the same amount of leafs. All leafs must be the same width and thickness.

I. No helper springs.

J.   No Positive or locked rear ends allowed. No altering of rear end or gears.

K. Stock suspension for year, make and model.

L. Stock automatic transmissions only. (Transmission must be able to bolt to motor without alterations).

M. You may fabricate a transmission mount, but must use stock cross member.

N. Torque converter must match transmission & motor.

O. No power glides.

P. No concealing of any suspension parts.

Q. No boxing of trailing arms allowed.

 

TIRES AND WHEELS

 

A. Factory Stock Steel 7” wheels, White, black or chrome spoke 7” wheels allowed. All offsets must match. No wheel spacers allowed.

B. Tires 70 and 75 series only. NO RACING TIRES. Hoosier street tires allowed.

C. No snow tires. M&S only.

D. 1” lug nuts highly recommended.

 

EXHAUST SYSTEM

 

A. Stock exhaust manifolds only.

B. Exhaust system must be mounted in such a way as to direct spent gases away from the cockpit area of the vehicle and away from areas of possible fuel spillage.

C. Heat risers may be removed.

D. No center dump exhaust manifolds.

 

 

ENGINES

 

?         305 GM. 302 Ford only! No intermarriage of engine to frame.

?         No fuel injectors. No turbo.

?         After market gaskets allowed.

?         Carburetors- Must be Quadrajet (GM) or Motorcraft (Ford). Any stock OEM two barrel. Two(2) barrel carb on two(2) barrel intake. Four(4) Barrel carb on four (4)  barrel intake. No adapters.

?         Only choke mechanisms may be removed from the carburetor.

?         No racing fuel or additives. (92 octane maximum).

?         Lift may not exceed 420. A lift of 421 on any lobe is ILLEGAL.

?         No HP stamped motors (HP=228.305).

?         Stock or stock replacement, cast, dished pistons only.

?         No angle milling or performance enhancing work on heads or block.

?         No vortex heads.

?         No grinding of any castings.

?         Crankshafts may be cleaned up to .010 under, Mains and rods. One time only.

?         No valve spring shims. Must have rotators. Spring shield may be removed.

?         Head numbers allowed: 305 see enclosed list, 302-(D80E, D70E, D50E). Heads must match the C.I.D.!

?         Valves must be stock dimensions.

?         No interchanging of rocker arms or ratios.

?         No overbore.

?         No offset key in crank.

?         No roller timing chains.

?         No screw-in studs.

?         No pinning of studs

?         No roller cams.

?         No degreeing of cams.

?         No balancing of motors.

?         Intake manifold must match C.I.D. of motor.

?         Stock distributor only. (Stock working order). Vacuum advance may be disconnected, but not removed.

?         No propane or marine intakes.

?         Must use stock oil pans and valve covers. Valve covers may be altered to accept one breather. All holes in valve cover may be plugged.

?         After market air filters allowed.

?         Thermostat may be removed.

?         Alternator may be removed.

?          EGR valve may be removed and holes may be plugged.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Disallowed if not allowed.

If the rules do not specifically allow a part or component, or do not allow specific alterations or modifications to a part or component than that part, component or modification is disallowed.

TEARDOWN PROCEEDURES

 

RACE CARS SUBJECT TO BEING PROTESTED

 

Any race car competing in the feature event, which;

Has a driver who executes a protest with a pure stock committee member or track official prior to the start of the feature race and has tendered the required protest fee in cash.

 

 

PROTEST FEE

 

$50.00 for the top end or $100.00 for both top and bottom end.

$50.00 for the suspension or driveline. Three (3) items only.

 

The upper end teardown includes, but is not limited to, the removal of the carburetor, gaskets, valve covers, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, valve train components and heads.

The lower end teardown includes, but is not limited to, removal of oil pan, crankshaft, rods and pistons.

Suspension and drive train includes but is not limited to three (3) items in this category, transmission, drive shaft, springs, front and rear, rear end and all suspension parts and components.

 

DISPOSITION OF PROTEST FEE

 

If, after teardown, the engine or race car is found to be legal, 100% of the protest fee will be paid to the protested driver. If after the teardown, the engine or race car is found to be illegal, 100% of the protest fee will be   returned to the protesting driver. Should the protested drivers car be found illegal, the protesting driver will receive monies earned by the protested driver for that evening.

 

PROTEST PROCEEDURE

 

After the feature race, a track official will notify the driver of the relevant racecar that his racecar has been protested. The protested driver shall then proceed directly to the designated area for inspection and teardown pursuant to the protest. Allowed representatives will then proceed, in accordance with the class protest, to tear down the engine or suspension of the protested racecar.

 

SPECIAL PROVISIONS RELATED TO PROTESTS

 

A driver may only protest one car per race. Only the Pure Stock Committee has the final word on the legality of the racecars involved in a protest.

The Hibbing Raceway and the Pure Stock Committee reserve the right to inspect, teardown and enforce the Pure Stock rules at any time prior, during or after the race program and retain the right to enforce all the rules and penalties herein written.

No person shall prevent or interfere with the protest procedure. No alcohol will be allowed at teardowns.

Any driver protesting any car the last (3) three weeks of the racing season will be subject to a mandatory inspection.

 

PENALTIES AND SANCTIONS RELATED TO PROTEST.

 

If any engine parts or suspension , drive train parts are found to be illegal whether discovered though a post race inspection or teardown, as a result of a protest or in connection with inspection by racetrack official. Shall be a fine up to $200.00, and or a suspension up to thirty (30) days, loss of all points earned to date, and forfeiture of all money and awards earned for that event. All penalties and sanctions shall be at the discretion of the pure stock committee.

 

 

 

 

CONFISCATION OF ILLEGAL PARTS

 

Hibbing Raceway and the Pure Stock Committee will confiscate any illegal parts.

Confiscated parts become the property of the Hibbing Raceway and may be disposed of at its discretion.

 

WITHDRAWAL OF PROTEST

 

If a driver declares an intent to protest, and tenders the required fee, and then the driver changes his/her             mind and withdraws the protest, then the driver forfeits all money and awards for the event, and shall lose all points  earned to date and forfeit required fee.

 

REFUSAL OF PROTEST

 

A driver who refuses to allow an inspection or teardown pursuant to a protest, shall be subject to the penalties as listed in penalties and sanctions listed above.

 

PRESENTS AT TEARDOWN

 

Protested cars driver, or one (1) person selected by protested driver must be present, pit crew as designated prior to teardown, Pure Stock Committee members, protesting driver must be present, track officials and security.

WEEKLY PURE STOCK TECHING PROCEEDURE

  1. On completion of the feature race, at the winners circle, the winning car will draw a number, 1-6, the number drawn will coincide with a finishing position and will be the car that will be teched or pumped.
  2. The top 6 finishing cars will proceed directly to the pit infield teching area. At this time the finishing position drawn at the scale will be announced and that position (car) will be the teched car, Will than draw another number 1-6. The number drawn will coincide with the area of the car to be teched as listed below.
    1. Complete rear end and gear inspection. Gear box cover must be removed.
    2. Complete front suspension and springs inspection. Springs must be removed.
    3. Complete Carburetor and spacer inspection. Carb and spacer must be removed.
    4. Rear springs. Must be removed.
    5. Cam shaft.
    6. Heads.
    7. Discretion of the tech officials
