Hibbing, MN- In front of a near capacity crowd at Hibbing Raceway, the World of Outlaws Late Models made their first ever visit and it was a night to remember for Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wisconsin and the massive crowd on hand. Mars, making his laps around the Hibbing Raceway since 1996, fell back to fourth in the early going of the 50 lap $10,000 to win event but found his groove in the mid-stages to charge forward and overtake series point leader Darrell Lanigan of Union, Kentucky. From there, Mars managed traffic expertly and never looked back en route to an emotional win that was dedicated to a fallen friend. Mars was followed to the finish line by Tim McCreadie of Watertown, New York and early leader Lanigan.

While the World of Outlaws Late Models may have been the main draw Thursday in Hibbing, the WISSOTA Super Stocks and Pure Stocks also raced for increased stakes in front of the near capacity crowd. Following occasional WISSOTA racer and past Labor Day Shootout Champion Jimmy Mars' victory celebration, the Super Stocks took to the track and provided their own bit of excitement. Kevin Burdick and Derek Vesel paced the field and it didn't take long for Burdick to take over the top spot. While several drivers scrambled behind Dave Mass was on the move as he snuck forward from the third row. Behind Mass, Tyler Kintner also raced froward from the fifth row and after mid-race cautions, Mass turned up the heat on the leader Burdick. Burdick fended off Mass's advances and he maintined his low line. On the final lap however, that all changed when Mass surged around the outside of the race long leader and beat Burdick back to the line for the dramatic win. The win for the former Labor Day Shootout Champion was his first in Hibbing in his first visit of the year.

The Pure Stocks closed out the historic evening Jeremy Theisen and Gary Ruzich holding down the front row. Early on, Ruzich jumped in front of Theisen while Margo Butcher and Steve Udeen raced closely behind. Ruzich continued to lead and after an early caution, he was able to stretch his lead while Mike Blevins charged into contention. After winning a battle for second with Theisen, Blevins looked to the leader who had built his cushion but was entering traffic. In traffic, Blevins was able to close the gap but his last lap bid came up short as Ruzich cruised to the win.

Racing on Saturday, July 19 for American Cancer Society Pack the Stands Night will be presented by Cliffs Natural Resources, Triumph Twist Drill, MTD Real Estate, General Waste, Tom & Jerry's Bar, and Portable John. For more information, visit or call (218) 262=2324
